Find the answers to our most frequently asked questions about undergraduate applications.

Applications for courses commencing in 2017 – including semester 1 and later teaching periods - open on Monday 1 August 2016. See our key dates page for a full list of important dates including closing dates.

All applications are submitted online. Information on how to apply, what happens after you apply and details of how our participating institutions select applicants can be found in the Clarify pages.

All applicants (except international applicants studying an Australian year 12 program overseas in 2016) must pay the processing fee. For 2016 year 12 students the processing fee is $30.00. For all other applicants the processing fee is $68.00.

If you are applying for semester 1 courses and submit your application after Friday 30 September 2016 you must pay a late fee of $119 in addition to the processing fee.

If you wish to sit the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) additional fees will apply.

Fees paid to SATAC are not refundable.

If you are applying for courses starting in semester 1 2017 and you submit your application after 30 September 2016 you will be charged a late fee. The late fee is payable by anyone who includes a semester 1 course preference after this date, even if you change your mind later on.

Some applicants are required to provide supporting documents for their qualifications, such as TAFE/VET or overseas studies. You can find information about submitting supporting documents on the after you apply page.

Yes, if you need to submit supporting documents to SATAC you can upload them online in PDF or JPEG format after you have submitted your application. The online instructions will step you through the process. You can return to your application to add additional documents via My Application.

In most cases, there is no set date for submitting documents because there are different start times for courses and multiple offer round dates throughout the year. SATAC advises you to submit supporting documents as soon as possible after submitting your application.

If you are required to submit a statutory declaration for rural and remote entry to courses at Flinders University or the University of Adelaide, a specific timeframe applies for submitting supporting documentation. Check the course entry details carefully when submitting your application.

If you are currently studying or have recently completed a course and are awaiting supporting documentation, submit it as soon as it is available to you.

Any delay in submitting your documents may affect the outcome of your application. 

SATAC does not keep documents submitted in previous applications. If SATAC requests documents in support of your application, you should submit them as soon as possible

You can choose to sit the STAT as part of your undergraduate application. The online instructions will step you through the process. If you’ve already submitted an application but didn’t book a STAT, contact SATAC for assistance.

Assessment times vary depending on your qualifications, when you submitted your application, and when the course(s) you have applied for chooses to make offers.

It is not possible for SATAC to give an exact assessment timeframe, but if you are not awaiting results from current year studies then you may wish to check the progress of your application after approximately 4 weeks.

The timing of offers will depend on a few factors, such as when you submit your application, how long assessment of your application might take and when you become eligible for an offer, and when the course(s) you have applied for chooses to make offers.

For courses starting in semester 1, many courses may not make offers until the main offer round in January. Some courses may choose to make early offers, but only to those applicants whose assessment is complete and who are not awaiting the results of current year studies.

SATAC will make you an offer to the highest preference for which you are both eligible and sufficiently competitive. You can change your preferences after you have received an offer, however any subsequent offer will supersede the original.

SATAC does not inform applicants if they have not received an offer, as the institutions may make further offers during the admissions cycle. You can contact us at any time if you wish to check the status of your application.

If you comply with all the application requirements but are unsuccessful and are still interested in studying at tertiary level, you should seek advice directly from the institutions on how you might increase your chances in a future application.
